Friends of the Earth Indonesia Submits Petition Against AZEC

Aug 21, 2024

On August 20, Friends of the Earth Indonesia (WALHI) held a protest in front of the Japanese Embassy in Indonesia, where they handed in a petition demanding the Japanese government to immediately stop the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) initiative. The protest was also held in conjunction with AZEC’s ministerial meeting in Jakarta from August 20-21.

Through AZEC, the Japanese government continues to promote false solutions as well as debt trap. With loans or investments, the Japanese government will extend the life of fossil fuels through fossil gas, hydrogen/ammonia/biomass co-firing, and Carbon Capture Storage.
